How to add Files.fm calendars to your phone and computer
Keep your Files.fm calendar close at hand: check it in a browser, follow a shared schedule in your usual calendar app, or connect your account through CalDAV to edit events across devices. A parent following training sessions usually needs a subscription; a colleague updating a shared work calendar needs account access and synchronisation.
Choose how you want to use the calendar
- Browser: create and manage events in Calendars. This section is also available in the document management system (DVS).
- Subscription by link: follow a shared calendar in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook. It is read-only, and refresh timing depends on the receiving app.
- CalDAV: connect your Files.fm account to a compatible app. Changes synchronise in both directions according to your access rights.
- One-time import: download an event as an .ics file. This creates a separate copy that does not receive later changes.
Start in Files.fm
- Sign in and open Calendars. To create a calendar, select New calendar, enter its name and choose a colour.
- Review access before adding events: new web calendars start with link sharing enabled. If you need to edit someone else’s calendar, ask the owner to grant access to your Files.fm account.
- Open the calendar settings or shared-calendar menu and select Add to my device. The dialog contains subscription options and CalDAV server information.
Follow a calendar by link
On a shared calendar page, select Add to my device and choose your app. Copy the subscription address from this dialog, rather than the browser’s calendar-viewing address.
- Apple Calendar: use the offered button to open a compatible calendar app and confirm the subscription.
- Google Calendar: on a computer, open Other calendars (+) → From URL, paste the subscription address and add it. Set this up on the web before viewing it in the mobile app. See Google’s subscription instructions.
- Outlook on the web: open Calendar → Add calendar → Subscribe from web, paste the address and confirm. Updates can take more than 24 hours, and an organisation may restrict subscriptions. See Microsoft’s instructions.
Link subscriptions require link access to be enabled. For a private calendar, use CalDAV with an authorised account. Opening the setup dialog does not change calendar access.
Prepare your CalDAV connection details
- Server / Base URL:
https://calendar.failiem.lv— also used for Files.fm accounts. If an app asks for a hostname only, entercalendar.failiem.lvand keep SSL enabled. - User name: your own Files.fm username.
- Password: your own Files.fm account password.
A public link does not grant CalDAV access. Use your own account even when connecting a colleague’s calendar. If you previously configured CalDAV with your account email address and the web calendar asks you to contact support, have the existing calendar identity linked before setting up another connection.
iPhone
- In Settings, open Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account.
- Choose the other-account option, then Add CalDAV Account.
- Enter the server and account details above, save, and enable the calendar in the Calendar app’s calendar list.
Menu names vary with iOS version and language. See Apple’s account setup guide.
Mac: Apple Calendar
- Open Calendar and choose Calendar → Add Account → Other CalDAV Account.
- Choose Manual and enter your username, password and server address.
- Sign in and select the calendars you want to display.
Android: DAVx⁵
- Install DAVx⁵ using an option on its official download page. Follow its permissions and background-sync setup.
- Add an account using the URL and username option. Enter the CalDAV details above.
- Select the calendars to synchronise, run a sync and enable them in your Android calendar app.
DAVx⁵ handles synchronisation; a separate calendar app displays and edits events. When creating an event, select the Files.fm calendar rather than a local device calendar. See the DAVx⁵ guide.
Thunderbird
- Open the calendar tab and choose New Calendar → On the Network.
- Enter your username and put the server URL in Location. Keep authentication enabled.
- Select Find Calendars, enter your password when prompted and subscribe to the calendars you need.
See Thunderbird’s instructions.
Classic Outlook for Windows: CalDAV synchronisation
- Install Outlook CalDav Synchronizer and open its Synchronization Profiles dialog.
- Add a Generic CalDAV/CardDAV profile. Select a dedicated Outlook calendar folder, then enter the server URL, username and password.
- Use Test or discover settings to select the remote calendar, choose two-way synchronisation, save and run a sync.
Follow the plugin’s setup guide. This route is for classic Outlook on Windows: new Outlook does not support COM/VSTO add-ins. For viewing a schedule in Outlook on the web, use the subscription method above.
Check the result
For CalDAV, create a test event in the connected Files.fm calendar and confirm it appears in the browser. Change its time in the browser and check the app after synchronising. If nothing appears, check the selected calendar, account access and sync settings. For a link subscription, allow the app time to refresh.
This guide builds on the Files.fm connection guide (PDF, Latvian), with updated setup paths. CalDAV is for calendars; CardDAV is for contacts. To begin, open Calendars and select Add to my device.
